COME SHARE THE LOVE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

You Are Invited

I am Bishop Todd Bell and along with the community of Saint Matthias, I wish to welcome you and share the love of our Lord Jesus Christ with all we come in contact with. Spreading the Good News of salvation and anxiously awaiting His coming in glory!

The Community of Saint Matthias is committed to an inclusive approach, void of barriers between God and His people. Christ ministered to those in need, rather than those who were in “good standing” under the “law”. Christ more often than not was found in the company of the “untouchables”, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind and ministering to forbidden people such as the Samaritan woman.

The Church must minister to people through love and kindness; not fear and heavy handedness. We seek to do this through equality, justice and truth. This is done through strengthening with an understanding of God’s Holy Scriptures, renewal within the Holy Eucharist and an openness to the Holy Spirit as He speaks to and through His people.

"The God Of Life And Death"The covenant of God lays out for us measures of blessings and curses. It is not that God curses us; it is that in disobeying God we bring curses upon ourselves. In like manner, God gives us the choice of life and death. To follow Him leads to life and to reject Him results in death. In the Garden, Adam and Eve made the willing choice of death over life, and on Calvary Jesus restored humanity to life.“I would have said, ‘I will make an end of themand blot out their name from men’s memories,’Had I not feared the insolence of their enemies, feared that these foes would mistakenly boast.”R. It is I who deal death and give life.“‘Our own hand won the victory;the LORD had nothing to do with it.’”For they are a people devoid of reason, having no understanding.R. It is I who deal death and give life.“How could one man rout a thousand,or two men put ten thousand to flight,Unless it was because their Rock sold themand the LORD delivered them up?”R. It is I who deal death and give life.Close at hand is the day of their disaster, and their doom is rushing upon them!Surely, the LORD shall do justice for his people;on his servants he shall have pity.R. It is I who deal death and give life. ... See MoreSee Less

"Difficult Not Impossible"Too many look at rules as restrictions. God gives us rules for our protection. In today's Gospel reading, we hear Jesus sharing the "rules" with someone wanting to know what they must do to gain eternal life. Knowing that the man had already made the rules a part of his life, Jesus knew what stood in the way and told him to go and sell all that he had and give it to the poor. The scripture says that the man left sad. He realized that what the Lord was asking of him was difficult, but it was not impossible. What we do not know is whether he did as the Lord told him. The question is, though, whether we will do what He calls us to do.“Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?”He answered him, “Why do you ask me about the good? There is only One who is good.If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”He asked him, “Which ones?”And Jesus replied, “You shall not kill;you shall not commit adultery;you shall not steal;you shall not bear false witness;honor your father and your mother;and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”The young man said to him,“All of these I have observed. What do I still lack?”Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go,sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”When the young man heard this statement, he went away sad,for he had many possessions. ... “Let The Nations Praise The Lord”I have heard it said that when you get to the bottom of the well, there is only one way to go, and that is up. Sadly, too many people wait until they get to the bottom of the well to look up. The Great Commission is to go out unto all the nations proclaiming the Good News and baptizing them in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. As Christians, we are called to help people look up. To look not only for a way out, but more importantly for a way in (to Heaven). God has given us the way, the truth, and the life, and now we are called to share that Way with others. Today’s Psalm encourages us to make the way of the Lord known upon the earth. May the purpose in our life be driven by our proclamation, “O God, let all the nations praise you”.May God have pity on us and bless us;may he let his face shine upon us.So may your way be known upon earth;among all nations, your salvation.R. O God, let all the nations praise you!May the nations be glad and exultbecause you rule the peoples in equity;the nations on the earth you guide.R. O God, let all the nations praise you!May the peoples praise you, O God;may all the peoples praise you!May God bless us,and may all the ends of the earth fear him!R. O God, let all the nations praise you! ... See MoreSee Less
