COME SHARE THE LOVE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

You Are Invited

I am Bishop Todd Bell and along with the community of Saint Matthias, I wish to welcome you and share the love of our Lord Jesus Christ with all we come in contact with. Spreading the Good News of salvation and anxiously awaiting His coming in glory!

The Community of Saint Matthias is committed to an inclusive approach, void of barriers between God and His people. Christ ministered to those in need, rather than those who were in “good standing” under the “law”. Christ more often than not was found in the company of the “untouchables”, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind and ministering to forbidden people such as the Samaritan woman.

The Church must minister to people through love and kindness; not fear and heavy handedness. We seek to do this through equality, justice and truth. This is done through strengthening with an understanding of God’s Holy Scriptures, renewal within the Holy Eucharist and an openness to the Holy Spirit as He speaks to and through His people.

"His Word Is Enough"Since the time of Jesus, people have wanted signs and wonders. Jesus gave us his word that He was the Messiah, the Only Son of God. He also gave us signs and wonders, only a few of which are written down. Sadly, many today find themselves seeking the same signs and wonders for verification. In today's Gospel, we are reminded that those who know His voice and believe in Him belong to Him. May we allow His word to be enough for us, for He is ever faithful and true. The feast of the Dedication was taking place in Jerusalem. It was winter. And Jesus walked about in the temple area on the Portico of Solomon. So the Jews gathered around him and said to him,“How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”Jesus answered them, “I told you and you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify to me.But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.” ... See MoreSee Less

“The Message Of The Shepherd”Yesterday was Good Shepherd Sunday, and today’s Gospel reading continues with the same spirit of being shepherded by a/the Good Shepherd. There is so much we need to embrace in the teachings of Jesus in general, but even more so when He teaches on shepherding. We have a shepherd who not only knows us, but He loves us. He loves us so much that He willingly laid down His life so that we might have everlasting life. A key element of this teaching is the need for us to accept our role as sheep who belong to the Good Shepherd. May we put our own wants, wishes, and desires aside so that we may follow the Shepherd step by step as He leads us in paths of righteousness. Jesus said:“I am the good shepherd.A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.A hired man, who is not a shepherdand whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them. This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me,just as the Father knows me and I know the Father;and I will lay down my life for the sheep.I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd. This is why the Father loves me,because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own.I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again. This command I have received from my Father.” ... “Patience Is Grace Before God”Patience is something that I struggle with. We live in a “now” (immediate gratification) world, and so waiting for something seems almost unfair. In today’s second reading, we are reminded that we are called to be patient and that doing so is seen as grace before God. Jesus was patient, and so, as those who emulate Jesus, we too must have patience. God continually shows patience as He waits for us to repent of our sins and turn back to Him. As God has shown grace through patience to us, may we too show grace through patience before God.Beloved:If you are patient when you suffer for doing what is good, this is a grace before God.For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his footsteps. He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth. When he was insulted, he returned no insult;when he suffered, he did not threaten;instead, he handed himself over to the one who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross,so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness.By his wounds you have been healed. For you had gone astray like sheep, but you have now returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls. ... "The Action Of Salvation"Too many times, we see the words and intention of salvation, but do we put it into action? St. Paul, St. Peter, St. John, St James, oh, and Jesus all speak of the actions that will evidence salvation. In today's Gospel reading, Jesus tells the disciples that if we are saved, we will do specific things. He gave them evidence of the salvation received. How is salvation being played out in your life? If it has been received, it MUST be shared.Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said to them:“Go into the whole worldand proclaim the Gospel to every creature.Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved;whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe:in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”Then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heavenand took his seat at the right hand of God.But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with themand confirmed the word through accompanying signs. ...
