COME SHARE THE LOVE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

You Are Invited

I am Bishop Todd Bell and along with the community of Saint Matthias, I wish to welcome you and share the love of our Lord Jesus Christ with all we come in contact with. Spreading the Good News of salvation and anxiously awaiting His coming in glory!

The Community of Saint Matthias is committed to an inclusive approach, void of barriers between God and His people. Christ ministered to those in need, rather than those who were in “good standing” under the “law”. Christ more often than not was found in the company of the “untouchables”, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind and ministering to forbidden people such as the Samaritan woman.

The Church must minister to people through love and kindness; not fear and heavy handedness. We seek to do this through equality, justice and truth. This is done through strengthening with an understanding of God’s Holy Scriptures, renewal within the Holy Eucharist and an openness to the Holy Spirit as He speaks to and through His people.

“Refuge And Hope”The church is a sanctuary. What does that mean? It is a place of safety, a place of rest, and a place of both physical and spiritual renewal. These are things that we are regularly in need of, even if we do not realize it at the moment. God made our physical bodies in such a dynamic way that, as we sleep, our body heals itself. He has made our souls so that when we come into His presence, we are renewed and refreshed. This is the message of today’s Psalm, “The Lord of hosts is with us; our stronghold is the God of Jacob”.God is our refuge and our strength,an ever-present help in distress. Therefore we fear not, though the earth be shakenand mountains plunge into the depths of the sea.R. The Lord of hosts is with us; our stronghold is the God of Jacob. There is a stream whose runlets gladden the city of God,the holy dwelling of the Most High.God is in its midst; it shall not be disturbed;God will help it at the break of dawn.R. The Lord of hosts is with us; our stronghold is the God of Jacob. The LORD of hosts is with us;our stronghold is the God of Jacob.Come! behold the deeds of the LORD,the astounding things he has wrought on earth.R. The Lord of hosts is with us; our stronghold is the God of Jacob. ... See MoreSee Less

“Gratitude”We all want more. It is just part of our human nature to want more than what we have. That is our human nature, yet the Lord calls us to step outside of that and into our divine purpose. The divine begins with an expression of gratitude for what we already have. For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whoever believed in Him would have everlasting life. With a show of gratitude, we open the door for new, miraculous blessings to be bestowed on our lives. “I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me.”I will extol you, O LORD, for you drew me clearand did not let my enemies rejoice over me.O LORD, you brought me up from the nether world;you preserved me from among those going down into the pit.R. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me.Sing praise to the LORD, you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger lasts but a moment;a lifetime, his good will.At nightfall, weeping enters in,but with the dawn, rejoicing.R. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me.“Hear, O LORD, and have pity on me;O LORD, be my helper.”You changed my mourning into dancing;O LORD, my God, forever will I give you thanks.R. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. ... See MoreSee Less

“Be A Beacon Of Light”Knowing and acknowledging that we have sinned is essential to our embracing of salvation. The Lord reveals Himself to us by showing us a better way. This process exposes our faults, our weaknesses, our sins. This exposure is not meant for pain; rather, it is meant for healing. In today’s second reading, Saint Paul reminds us that we were once darkness, but now we are the light of the Lord. Let your light shine forth before all men, always remembering that we are His ambassadors to the world.Brothers and sisters:You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.Live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth.Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.Take no part in the fruitless works of darkness; rather expose them, for it is shameful even to mention the things done by them in secret; but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore, it says: “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” ...
