COME SHARE THE LOVE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

You Are Invited

I am Bishop Todd Bell and along with the community of Saint Matthias, I wish to welcome you and share the love of our Lord Jesus Christ with all we come in contact with. Spreading the Good News of salvation and anxiously awaiting His coming in glory!

The Community of Saint Matthias is committed to an inclusive approach, void of barriers between God and His people. Christ ministered to those in need, rather than those who were in “good standing” under the “law”. Christ more often than not was found in the company of the “untouchables”, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind and ministering to forbidden people such as the Samaritan woman.

The Church must minister to people through love and kindness; not fear and heavy handedness. We seek to do this through equality, justice and truth. This is done through strengthening with an understanding of God’s Holy Scriptures, renewal within the Holy Eucharist and an openness to the Holy Spirit as He speaks to and through His people.

“No Excuses”It is one thing to say, “I did not know,” and yet another to say, “I did not listen”. Many people today call themselves Christians, yet their lives do not tell the story. They speak as the world speaks, they act as the world acts, and going to church is something that happens on rare, if any, occasions. Jesus spoke of these people when He said, “not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter”. Today’s Gospel reading likewise addresses those who have heard and refuse to listen and obey. Let those who have ears hear and those who have eyes see. There will be no excuses before the throne of God, only grace and mercy for those who have abided in the will of God.Jesus began to reproach the townswhere most of his mighty deeds had been done, since they had not repented.“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done in your midsthad been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more tolerablefor Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.And as for you, Capernaum:Will you be exalted to heaven? You will go down to the nether world. For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Sodom,it would have remained until this day.But I tell you, it will be more tolerablefor the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.” ... “Getting God’s Attention”How can we get God’s attention? Today’s Psalm tells us the path to this. Our actions and intentions are of the utmost importance. God desires a contrite heart, not merely actions without meaning. It was never the sacrifice that God wanted; it was the giving heart of His people that He desired. The law is not there to see if we can follow it; rather, it is there so that when we follow it, we are safe from all harm. God desires our heart, and when we engage Him with sincerity of heart, we will have His attention. If you desire the ear of God, abandon the ways of the flesh and embrace the fullness of His love. “To the upright I will show the saving power of God”.“Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you,for your burnt offerings are before me always.I take from your house no bullock,no goats out of your fold.”R. To the upright I will show the saving power of God.“Why do you recite my statutes, and profess my covenant with your mouth,Though you hate disciplineand cast my words behind you?”R. To the upright I will show the saving power of God.“When you do these things, shall I be deaf to it?Or do you think you that I am like yourself?I will correct you by drawing them up before your eyes.He that offers praise as a sacrifice glorifies me;and to him that goes the right way I will show the salvation of God.”R. To the upright I will show the saving power of God. ... See MoreSee Less

“Tend Your Garden”Scripture makes it very clear that we are first to look at our own failings and then be concerned with others. Today’s Gospel reading offers us this same opportunity. We see the parable of the sower whose seed fell on both good and bad soil. The seed that fell on good soil flourished, and the seed that fell on bad soil burned up. What does the soil of your life look like? Does the garden need to be weeded, tilled, and tended? The reality is that all of us need to tend to our gardens. Even the best of fields need care. Let us reconcile ourselves with God so that the seeds He plants within us can flourish. On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea.Such large crowds gathered around himthat he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore. And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying:“A sower went out to sow.And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up.Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil.It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it.But some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit,a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.Whoever has ears ought to hear.” ...
