COME SHARE THE LOVE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

You Are Invited

I am Bishop Todd Bell and along with the community of Saint Matthias, I wish to welcome you and share the love of our Lord Jesus Christ with all we come in contact with. Spreading the Good News of salvation and anxiously awaiting His coming in glory!

The Community of Saint Matthias is committed to an inclusive approach, void of barriers between God and His people. Christ ministered to those in need, rather than those who were in “good standing” under the “law”. Christ more often than not was found in the company of the “untouchables”, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind and ministering to forbidden people such as the Samaritan woman.

The Church must minister to people through love and kindness; not fear and heavy handedness. We seek to do this through equality, justice and truth. This is done through strengthening with an understanding of God’s Holy Scriptures, renewal within the Holy Eucharist and an openness to the Holy Spirit as He speaks to and through His people.

“Continuing In Love”There are several places within the Gospels that we are reminded to love one another, love our neighbor, and love our brothers and sisters. Today, we are told to love even our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. It is not enough to be kind to those who are kind to us or to love those who love us, but we are called to love everyone; the good, the bad, the lovable, and the unlovable. We are all created by God, and it is His desire that all might be saved and none might be lost. We are called to be better than the world, to be different than the world, to be perfect, just as our heavenly Father is perfect. Let us live out this day and every day with love.Jesus said to his disciples:“You have heard that it was said,You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemiesand pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that?Do not the pagans do the same?So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.” ... “Love Conquers All”Today’s readings could not be any more appropriate. We have become a payback society. If you insult me, I will insult you more. In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus addresses these types of people and situations. As Christians, we are called to take the high road, to lead a better example, to be a light unto the world. When we drop down to the way of the world, we are no longer “living in the world, but not of the world”; instead, we are the world. Jesus spoke strongly against this sort of behavior, and today shows us by His own word and action that there is a better way: love conquers all.Jesus said to his disciples:“You have heard that it was said,An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well.If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well.Should anyone press you into service for one mile,go with him for two miles.Give to the one who asks of you,and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.” ... “Followers First”Whether we are natural-born leaders or not, most people want to lead their own lives. Our flesh desires to be in charge of all that we do. This is the primary reason that we justify our actions. Our spiritual life stands opposed to our flesh, and to live in the spirit requires us to give up control over every aspect of our lives. We are called to be followers of Jesus Christ and to be submissive to His leading. In today’s Psalm, we are reminded that, “We are his people: the sheep of his flock”. If He is our shepherd and we are His sheep, then we must first become followers of His leading.Sing joyfully to the LORD, all you lands;serve the LORD with gladness;come before him with joyful song.R. We are his people: the sheep of his flock.Know that the LORD is God;he made us, his we are;his people, the flock he tends.R. We are his people: the sheep of his flock.Enter his gates with thanksgiving, his courts with praise;Give thanks to him; bless his name.R. We are his people: the sheep of his flock. For he is good, the LORD, whose kindness endures forever, and his faithfulness, to all generations. R. We are his people: the sheep of his flock. ...
