COME SHARE THE LOVE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

You Are Invited

I am Bishop Todd Bell and along with the community of Saint Matthias, I wish to welcome you and share the love of our Lord Jesus Christ with all we come in contact with. Spreading the Good News of salvation and anxiously awaiting His coming in glory!

The Community of Saint Matthias is committed to an inclusive approach, void of barriers between God and His people. Christ ministered to those in need, rather than those who were in “good standing” under the “law”. Christ more often than not was found in the company of the “untouchables”, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind and ministering to forbidden people such as the Samaritan woman.

The Church must minister to people through love and kindness; not fear and heavy handedness. We seek to do this through equality, justice and truth. This is done through strengthening with an understanding of God’s Holy Scriptures, renewal within the Holy Eucharist and an openness to the Holy Spirit as He speaks to and through His people.

“Food From Heaven”How much energy do we spend filling the hunger of our stomachs? How much energy do we spend filling the hunger of our souls? Chances are that the scales of measure are heavily unbalanced towards our stomachs. A meal only lasts for a few hours, and yet there is food that will keep us filled for a lifetime, and many never sincerely search for it. In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus offers Himself as the “bread of life” that has come from heaven. I enjoy the food that fills my stomach, but I love the food that comes from heaven. I grew up hearing, “You are what you eat”. I would suggest that our lives can be defined by what we consume. Let us seek the Bread which comes down from heaven and be filled with life-giving water. The crowd said to Jesus:“What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you? What can you do?Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written:"He gave them bread from heaven to eat.”So Jesus said to them,“Amen, amen, I say to you,it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven;my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heavenand gives life to the world.”So they said to Jesus,“Sir, give us this bread always.”Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life;whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” ... "Living For The Moment?"So many people get stuck living in the moment. I am not suggesting that we should ignore the moment; on the contrary, enjoy the moment, but live with your focus on eternity. Let the moment be a part of your eternity, not the totality of it. In today's Gospel reading, Jesus has just fed the five thousand, and the next day they come looking for Him. He tells them that they are not motivated by the signs and wonders that He has done, but rather by the food they ate the day before. His encouragement to them is to have eternal minds rather than temporal ones. Today will soon be gone, but our life in Jesus Christ is eternal. The next day, the crowd that remained across the seasaw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not gone along with his disciples in the boat, but only his disciples had left.Other boats came from Tiberiasnear the place where they had eaten the breadwhen the Lord gave thanks. When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into boatsand came to Capernaum looking for Jesus. And when they found him across the sea they said to him,“Rabbi, when did you get here?”Jesus answered them and said,“Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for menot because you saw signsbut because you ate the loaves and were filled.Do not work for food that perishesbut for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.”So they said to him,“What can we do to accomplish the works of God?”Jesus answered and said to them,“This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.” ... “The Price Of Freedom”What is the price of my freedom? It is not something that can be afforded in monetary value; it is afforded as a life for a life. Jesus came to free us from the slavery of sin and death, yet it required Him to give His own life. The debt was not paid to someone or something; it was paid for everyone so that we might have eternal life. In today’s second reading, we are reminded of the desperate state our lives were in before Jesus, and yet it also reminds us of the glorious state He has placed us in by the blood of the cross. May our lives honor His sacrifice, and may our hearts fall in love with His mercy. Freedom may not be free, but it has been purchased in advance for all.Beloved:If you invoke as Father him who judges impartiallyaccording to each one’s works, conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your sojourning, realizing that you were ransomed from your futile conduct, handed on by your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or goldbut with the precious blood of Christas of a spotless unblemished lamb.He was known before the foundation of the worldbut revealed in the final time for you,who through him believe in Godwho raised him from the dead and gave him glory,so that your faith and hope are in God. ...
